The New Season is Upon Us

Sunday, April 13, 2008, 09:35 AM CST [General]

After a long long winter, spring is finally here! Sarah and I are trecking down to Kansas next weekend for our first faire of the season. We leave Friday night to hook up with Goodgirl and Caitlan (and, of course, Willow and Bria) then off to Witchita Saturday morning. We'll spend the day at faire and have some fun in the evening.

Sarah will be wearing her garb from last year. I was surprised it still fit here. I am in the process of making her a pirate costume for the rest of the season. I have the under and over skirt done and the pieces of the bodice cut out. I made the mistake of letting Sarah pick out the fabric and now I'm not so sure the two pinks match very well. Yes, you read that correctly, pink. She is going to be a pink pirate. We'll be heading to the fabric store in KC this weekend so I may be picking up some new facric and making some changes.

I'm also going to be working on my dress again this afternoon. It's been put on hold for about a month. It should be interesting if can pull this off and make something for myself that I'll actually be able to wear.

    Peace to all.

    First Garb Creation

Sunday, March 9, 2008, 08:37 AM CST [General]

Wow, two blogs in as many days. I think that's a record for me :)

Ok, here are very early pictures of my dress. I'm still cutting and placing the fabric. The dress is made with asian brocade. I just love the design and texture. The inner skirt and part of the bodice is plain black silk. The two fabrics felt really good together and I think there's nice contrast.

The pattern shows lace but I think I'm going to not include it. I'm not sure I like it that much. I'll need to figure something else out if it looks "unfinished" without the lace.

I'm hoping to get the rest of the pieces at least cut today but we'll see. Lots to do today.

    Worst Blogger EVER!

Saturday, March 8, 2008, 03:00 PM CST [General]

Ok, I think I'm officially the worst blogger ever. I could make excuses about how busy I've been, which I have been, but I won't. I guess I haven't had anything that interesting to share.

I have been sewing a lot. I've been practicing making my kids some things. My son got a new pair of PJs and a robe (a Husker role none the less). My daughter has also gotten some PJs and a few new sun dresses for summer.

My husband bought me a dress form for my birthday (ya Gary). I found a really nice ren dress pattern and I'm starting it today. I found some very pretty fabric and I'm really excited to begin my first ren garb.

I'm stuck on my daughter for this faire season. The beautiful dress Goodgirl made for her last year is too small. I want to make her a pirate costume like mine but I can't find any patterns anywhere. I finally found one site that had a pattern I was looking for but it was backordered and they didn't know when they would be getting more in. I'm starting to run out of time. Goodgirl thinks she can help but just in case does anyone have any ideas? Are there any sitets out there that may have what I'm loking for?

I'll try to get on more often. Now that faire season will be in full swing soon I'm sure there will be more to share.

    Sarah's Dress - Update

Saturday, January 12, 2008, 05:33 PM CST [General]

After a busy couple of weeks I was finally able to get some sewing done! I was able, after two tries, to get the bodice attached to the skirt. The gathers were not fun and they're not the best but overall I think it's ok. I'm hoping to have it done tomorow. There's isn;t much left to do.

    Finally making progress!

    Sarah's Dress

Tuesday, January 1, 2008, 07:49 PM CST [General]

I was only going to cut out the pattern pieces today but had some extra time before dinner and thought I'd go ahead and start on the bodice. So far so good. A few of the seams may be a little off. I start work on the skirt next. I sure hope the two pieces fit together :)
